Charming Gift Bags
Today I’m sharing the second of the projects we made in my July classes using products from the Floral Charm Suite. This second project uses the Floral Charm Designer Series Paper to make gorgeous gift bags. When I opened the pack of Floral Charm DSP I saw that each of the 6 designs had a soft wash or coordinating tone on tone pattern on the reverse side. Often you will get a couple of sheets in a pack with coordinating designs on the reverse, but not the ENTIRE pack. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to make gift bags.

This photo shows 3 of the Floral Charm designs made up. The finished size of the bag when standing (excluding the handles) is 8” x 9.5” x 2” (20cm x 24cm x 5cm), so it is a great size for lots of gifts. Did you notice anything else from the photo? Yes, the bags are folded flat up for easy storage, so you can make them up in advance and pop them in a drawer. You can pull them out when you want to take your gift giving to the next level. Add some tissue, pop in your gift and you’re done!

Each bag uses 2 sheets of 12″ x 12″ patterned paper and you do need to be mindful of directional designs to make sure you have the paper facing the right way when you are scoring. There is minimum cutting involved and they are easy to construct.

I have used 2 nesting circle dies from the Stylish Shapes Dies to crop the contrasting circles that form the handles. You can of course, punch holes in the top edge to thread ribbon through for handles. I think for the little extra effort it really adds to the finished look. The semi-circle is punched out of the top edge using the 2 3/8″ Circle Punch or the retired 2 1/2″ Circle Punch, which I used.
We created a pretty tag with the retired Stitched Nested Label Dies as the base. The small floral image from the Charming Day stamp set was stamped and coloured with coordinating Stampin’ Blends markers and cropped with the coordinating die. Ribbon was passed around the handle and then through the hole in the tag and finished with a soft knot.
These gift bags are perfect for making good use of your 12″ x 12″ patterned paper, when you have a lovely coordinating design on the reverse.
If you would like to make some of these gift bags, I have a detailed tutorial available with scoring diagrams, construction photos and lots of tips to make sure you get a professional result. You can purchase the Gift Bag Tutorial from my Store.
