Watercolour Rose

Hi Everyone

It is so wonderful to have a few days off to relax before taking up a new contract. I have been taking it really easy and enjoying the winter sunshine that we have had for the last few days in Melbourne.

Yesterday I had a try at the latest watercolour technique that is doing the rounds. The tutorial for this technique can be found on Patty Bennett's website. I started doing my thing on watercolour paper before I looked at the tutorial which uses white shimmer paper, so I can vouch that the technique still gives a nice result on this paper, although it is matt rather than shiny. As I have only one reinker to my name, I have used the retired colour Purely Pomegranite (still one of my favourites) on the Fifth Avenue Floral rose and was surprised that you can still get nice shading even with a single colour.

Today I have put the card together, keeping the background colours fairly muted so that the rose can shine. The leaves are from the A Rose Is a Rose stamp set using Garden Green, which is a colour from my 'Stampin' Spots' that I hadn't opened (and never thought I would!). I love the Stampin' Spots because you get all of the Stampin' Up! colours in a cost effective package to try. Enough rambling, here is the card, I hope you like it. The details are below.

Here is another version using mostly the same materials. I am enjoying the Candy Lane Designer Series Paper. The mix of vanilla, pink and cocoa is very easy to work with.
