Masculine Nautical Birthday

The June round of classes has finished, so today I’m sharing this masculine nautical birthday card we made. It is always a hectic couple of weeks preparing for and hosting classes. This month had the extra challenge of being ill for a week beforehand, so I chose to CASE some ideas and put my spin on them.

This card uses a long retired stamp set ‘Sailing Home’ that I’ve kept in my stash. It has fabulous detailed nautical images and coordinating dies. I tend to keep a lot of masculine sets as it can be hard to find something appropriate when you need it.

This is a masculine birthday card using nautical red, white and blue colours. The HAPPY uses the large Alphabet a la Mode Dies with the image of a yacht forming the 'A' of happy. The 'birthday' part of the greeting sits over the leg of the 'Y'. It is finished with cute banners at the top right.

Red, white and blue is a classic for nautical cards, so I started with a Night of Navy card base. For the background, I dry embossed the Basic White panel with the Soft Waves 3D Embossing Folder. This is another great basic design to have in your stash for anything beach/ocean inspired. You can also use it to create rolling hills by cutting the embossed piece into sections. The embossed panel was added to a Real Red mat and adhered to the card base.

I adhered Adhesive Sheet to the reverse side of a strip of Night of Navy card stock and cropped the letters using the Alphabet a la Mode dies. Two sets were cropped, as the extra layer gives the letters more presence. The large yacht image was stamped in Night of Navy ink and I coloured the bottom of the boat with a Real Red Stampin’ Blends marker. The image was cropped with the coordinating die and popped up to form the ‘A’. Heat embossing the BIRTHDAY greeting on Real Red card stock adds a nice pop of colour. It was trimmed close and popped up across the leg of the ‘Y’.

I finished with a couple of little banners in the top right corner. The striped paper is from the Take A Bow 6″ x 6″ Designer Paper pack which was my go-to for holiday cards last year and it is now reduced in price in the Last Chance category of the Online Store. The Night of Navy banner was cropped with the smallest banner die from the Stylish Shapes Dies. For some bling, I added 3 of the small gold accents from the Flower Accents embellishments. They are part of the new Kintsugi Inspirations Suite and add a lovely bright pop to the card.

The inside of the card is embellished with another yacht image and birthday greeting.

For the inside, I have the Basic White writing panel on a mat of Real Red to mirror the front of the card. The smaller yacht image was stamped in the corner and grounded with a narrow strip of the red and white striped paper.

This photo shows the embossed waves really well. After I finished the card, I decided to add the birds above the yacht. Note to self – this is definitely easier BEFORE you do the embossing, lol.

If you would like to make a similar card but don’t have the retired ‘Sailing Home’ stamp set, the ‘Lets’s Set Sail’ stamp set and coordinating punch (also retired) or the new Sunrise Sailing Bundle would work equally as well.
