March Blog Hop – Card Sketch

Hi there

It is once again time for our casual monthly  Blog Hop. This month we have something a bit different with a card sketch from Becky Fleck of Page Maps. Those of you who visit my blog regularly, will know that I do quite a lot of sketch challenges.  The great thing about them is that you can choose to follow them very closely or you can use them for inspiration and take lots of creative license with the elements.

You may have come from the blog of the lovely Di Dunk, but if not, you can join the Blog Hop from here using the link to the next blog at the end of the post.  This month we have 8 Stampin' Up! demonstrators sharing their inspiration and the full list of contributors is also at the end of the post.

Now, to get started. This is the sketch that Ros Davidson chose for us, which has quite a lot of elements to work with.

March Blog Hop Sketch

This is my first card, which is almost square, measuring 13cm x 13.5cm. I've followed the suggestions in the sketch quite closely.

I've created the text panel using the 'happy birthday' stamp from teeny tiny sentiments repeated and offset on each line. Stamps from a number or other sets were used to create the elements on the card. Here are the details.

Project Details
Stamps Teeny Tiny Sentiments, Just Believe, Basic Phrases, Rustic Rooster (Retired Hostess Set), Winter Post
Card stock & Papers Early Espresso (Textured), Confetti White, Pumpkin Pie, Marina Mist, Greenhouse Gala DSP, Brights Pattern Stack
Ink Early Espresso, Pear Pizzazz
Accessories None
Tools Swiss Dots Embossing Folder, Big Shot, Spiral Border Punch, Corner Rounder Punch, Slot Punch (Retired), Decorative Scissors (Stamp),Dimensionals, Sponge dauber

For this second card, I've ignored the suggested contents of the elements (text in the panel, stamp feature etc) and used the basic outline of the sketch.

  1. Judy, both cards are lovely, you had time for the second one then? Your “happy birthday” stamping is very accurate (never doubted it would be), they all line up perfectly, you must have had your trusty ruler and a stampamajig.

  2. Oh, wow, Judy – these are beautiful! I love how you’ve threaded a strip of DSP through the ‘Friend’ tag on the first one, and used a ‘postage stamp’ and postmark stamp. Very nice. The second one is my favourite, because of the way you’ve used the colours; so glad you were able to get this one done, too. Stunning projects, my friend!

  3. Both lovely card Judy, but I really love the 1st one – the colours and intriguiging shapes really pull it together perfectly!

  4. I love them both Judy!
    – your first one because it is so bold, and anyone who is brave enough to make a card with that DSP and pull it off so brilliantly is a legend,
    – your second one is probably my favourite as I have a real thing for blue and yellow, and this card is so delicate compared to the other.
    Great job!

  5. Oh what a tough choice! I love the delicacy of the second card, but the bold patterns in the first work so well. I can’t decided -it’s a tie!

  6. Love your interpretation of the sketch Judy! Both cards are happy and lovely cards. Love the postage stamp idea on the first card.

  7. Judy these are both beautiful cards…..I love them. You have got everything so right on them, I can’t actually describe why I like them so much they just made me feel so happy!!!!! TFS Cheers Donna Zammit

  8. Hi Judy – beautiful cards my lovely friend – I can’t believe you lined up all those happy birthdays – so much patience, well done
