CASE-ing the Catty – Front Cover of Aug-Dec Mini

This week we're taking inspiration from projects on the front cover of the August – December 2020 Mini Catalogue. I managed to make 2 cards this week, both being inspired by the front cover.
This is the first sample that jumped out at me. It is a trio of metal tins, each wrapped in designer paper and then tied together with a bow and a greeting on the front. In my brain this translated to strips of designer paper on a card, so here is what I came up with.
I have adhered strips of designer paper from my new favourite 'Tis The Season Designer Paper pack onto a piece of Whisper White card stock, leaving a narrow border around each strip. The finished panel was adhered to a Real Red card base.
The greeting from Wrapped in Christmas stamp set was stamp in Shaded Spruce and then cropped with the largest of the stitched ovals from the Stitched Shapes Dies. I stamped the 'JOY' again in Real Red ink and fussy cut the letters and popped them up over the original. I added a bow in the lovely Real Red Double-Stitched Satin Ribbon at the top and finished with some holly at the bottom. The holly is from the Sweetest Time stamp set, stamped in Shaded Spruce with Real Red berries. You can see in the photo above that the berries are shiny from their coating of Shimmery Crystal Effects.
For the inside, I have a Mint Macaron mat for my writing panel and a strip of the plaid design at the bottom, with a border of Real Red. Even though Mint Macaron isn't one of the listed colours in this pack, it does work well with the lighter tones of Shaded Spruce in the paper. I have stamped the cluster of trees from the In The Pines stamp set to finish.
My second card is inspired by the sample in the photo above, using the Cherish the Season Bundle. I decided to crack open my new Poinsettia Petals Bundle for my card.
I have stayed close to the layout, covering my Whisper White card base with the Shaded Spruce plaid design from the 'Tis The Season Designer Paper. I have dry embossed a panel of Thick Whisper White using one of the new Wrapped in Texture Embossing Folders. This is a pack of 2 narrower embossing folders. As there is a lot of detail and texture in the embossed piece, I've rounded the corners on the inside edge to soften it a little.
I've die cut the 4 layers of the Poinsettia from Real Red card stock and used a sponge dauber to go around the edges to add more depth. I also used a stylus on each of the main veins in the petals and leaves, which causes them to turn up a little and you can also gently use your 2 thumbs to bend the petals inwards. The flower looks a bit flat in the photo above, but actually it is quite the opposite. I finished the centre with one of the lovely Beaded Pearls embellishments. I used the same process with the leaves which were cut from Garden Green card stock to provide a contrast. I popped in some extra foiliage die cut from Gold Foil. There is a lovely 'Merry Christmas' greeting in the Poinsettia Petals stamp set, but due to a mishap with my stamp set, I had to use a retired greeting.

Love the simplicity of the DSP strips. So clever and perfect. And the poinsettias is simply stunning.
Wow two lovely cards! To be honest, I didn’t even see the stack of 3 tins. I love how you have used it to inspire the strips on your card. I also love your second card. I really love the plaid background and the large poinsettia.
I love both cards. The first one is so clever. I love how you’ve used the same elements from the 3D project and made it your card with the strips of DSP, bow and sentiment.

Oh dear, a mishap doesn’t sound good! I hope it’s easily fixable. Your cards are gorgeous. The stitched ribbon on the first is beautiful – I love how it reflects the stitching on the oval. The pops of gold on the second card are stunning, as is the poinsettia.
