Blossom Birthday

Hi there

Today I have yet another birthday card to share with you. I have inked up the lovely blossom stamp 'Indescribable Gift' for the first time and coloured it with Blendabilities. Then for a bit of a twist, I have clear embossed the whole image and used my brayer to change the colour of the background. This is another variation of the emboss resist technique and although it is a bit fiddly I think it gives a lovely result.

I have used one of my favourite colour combinations of Smoky Slate and Pink Pirouette with a little bit of sparkle from the Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer paper for a soft and feminine result. It was difficult to get a good photo as there was reflection off the embossing on the image.

For the inside I have a small section of the blossom in the top corner and some washi tape from the Sweet Dreams collection at the bottom.

I have a few tips to give you a good result, based on my experience  The image on the card is my second effort.

  • Try not to use the Colour Lifter pen when you are colouring the image. The area where you use the colour lifter will not absorb the ink as well when you brayer over the top.
  • I used a VersaMarker to cover the image with Versamark ink prior to adding the clear embossing powder.  Try not to go over the edges of the image as it will be embossed and will resist the ink. This will leave white areas of the background showing.
  • After you have clear embossed your image, check to see that it is well covered. Sometimes you get a speckled effect from your embossing, and you will find that some of the ink from your brayer will find its way onto your image. I went over some areas where this occurred again with the VersaMarker and added more embossing powder until I got a nice even covering over the image.

The 'Love is Kindness' stamp would also be a good choice for this technique. I hope you will give it a try.
